What kind of chestnuts do you eat during x-mass?

I'm looking to get a tree or plant some of the chestnuts i find in the store.

What kind of chestnuts do you eat during x-mass?

Reply:Chestnuts from the sweet chestnut tree, (this has pink flowers) are edible and delicious when roasted.

The other chestnut tree is a horse chestnut, (conker tree) and this has white flowers.

The sweet chestnuts are from a shell which resembles a green hairy hedgehog, very sharp spikes.

The horse chestnut has a shell, again green and spiky but more open and rubbery, (not hairy).

Reply:The edible chestnuts are from the genus Castanea. Castanea sativa, the European chestnut, is the typical chestnut sold in stores. Chinese chestnut, C. mollisima, also has a good edible seed, but not as nice as C. sativa, imo.
