We threw chestnuts with the shells on and crab apples at the road, or we stomped crab apples.
Our children used to place pine cones on their siblings chairs.
Did you throw crab apples/chestnuts/pine cones, as a kid just for the fun of it-or some other nature item?
How funny, we did the same thing, we would pick the milk pod seeds and for you guys who know what I am talking about we would work our selves to death and open all the seeds a part and cover the road with them and when a car went by they would all go flying every where, we thought this was great fun.We got our fun different ways in though days.
Reply:My son and I rolled walnuts (there were trees throughout our neighborhood) into the street and got points for each one that was driven over and squooshed. We passed many hours at the bus stop with this activity. He still laughs when he remembers some of our "stuff" we did.
As for me, I was a squirrel when I was young. I gathered pinecones and acorns from my gramma's camp every summer. Then I hid them under my bed. My sibs and I also picked berries from the honeysuckle bushes, mashed them up, and used the juice for blood during our monster games in our backyard. Good memories!
Thanks for the question!
Reply:Mulberries. There was this old mulberry tree down the block that we kids could reach up and climb, then since we couldn't eat the mulberries (can't remember why, maybe they were just too sour?) we threw them at each in the tree until the owner of the property came out and yelled at us to get down, we could break our necks if we fall out (like that was ever going to happen!), called each of our parents so we caught it when we got home, and the owner cut down that great old tree (seemed a stupid thing to do). My nieces and nephews when they were young pulled all the satsuma tangerines off my dad's tree (we all waited eagerly for them things to get ripe enough to pick and eat fresh from the tree) and threw them at each other--got scolded for wasting food.
Reply:Chestnuts, too. We'd also collect them and paint faces on them.
Reply:We used to put green persimmons on the end of a green stick and sling them at each other.
Reply:I threw rocks and sticks at the small kids in our neighbourhood.
Reply:All that, and acorns, too. I hope kids still do that stuff.
Reply:All that , shucked corn cobs, and rocks too.
