Roasting Chestnuts.?

Have just picked some chestnuts and can't remember the correct way to roast them. Can you help?

How to Roast Chestnuts in the Oven





Warm up on those cold winter nights with some traditionally toasty chestnuts.





Steps:

1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.



2. Clean off chestnuts.



3. Use a sharp paring knife to cut an X into one side of each chestnut, or prick chestnuts with a fork to allow steam to escape.



4. Arrange chestnuts on a baking sheet or in a shallow pan, with the cut or pricked sides up.



5. Roast in oven for 15 to 25 minutes, or until chestnuts are tender and easy to peel.



6. Peel nuts when they are cool enough to handle, and enjoy.



Tips:

Use dry, firm chestnuts; soft chestnuts might be rotted.



Try a little salt on your chestnuts.



Be sure to remove the inner skins as well as the shells.

Chestnuts that have not been cut or pricked to allow steam to escape may explode, even after being removed from the heat.

Reply:We actually roast them on the fire at Christmas. The thing we learned is it does not take long for them to pop.



You could put them in the oven at preheated 375 should not take more than 10 minutes or so but you have to watch and listen other wise you get charcol

Reply:Cut a small cross in the top or they will explode

Put in a hot oven and leave till they start going black
Reply:we always did it on the gas fire in Mums front room but in my house I don't have a fire just radiators and I love chestnuts.

When we brought our lean mean fat reducing grilling machine it said we can cook them on that and I have a rottisary they come out brill in that but a bit noisy as they go round and they can be done in a pan on the stove you can buy special pans to do them in

Reply:You must first cut the shell with a knife to prevent the nuts from exploding as they get hot. You roast them at 400deg F for 15-20 min.

You can boil them first to ensure they roast more evenly.
Reply:I was always worried my ex-girlfriend, who was Colombian, would roast my chestnuts if she caught me playing around.



She never did.
Reply:On a cookie sheet,make a small cut on each Chestnut and bake at 350 degrees till done .They will slightly open up when done.
Reply:throw them into charcoal chips over hot fire and start roasting!!
