How do you roast chestnuts on an open fire?

I have the firplace ready to go and I bought some raw chestnuts in the produce department. Now what do I need to do?

How do you roast chestnuts on an open fire?
Sounds loveley, make sure you make a slit in them first or they will pop! What you got sounds ideal or you can get wire chestnut baskets to cook over open fire. (15-20 mins) Eat straight away or they will harden and become impossible to peel, If this happens you can put them back on fire to soften. Chestnuts `go off` very quickly so make sure you store them in an airtight container in the fridge. Hope this helps. xx

Reply:The cast iron is always a good choice, hope you already conditioned it or it will SMOKE up the house.

I think years ago, people just placed them in front of the fire and fished them out with a long pincer tool.
Reply:I'm not sure, but from a guys point of view, it sounds scarey !!! =oO
Reply:have you ever seen the popcorn pop with a long hand that you put on a fir place that get you one of than than that shill work
Reply:A pot
Reply:if you can find an old popcorn (closed lid) or a small metal box you would get in a rotisserie..............you need to refrig nuts, they can go bad!!!
