How can I dye my hair from deep cherry red to chestnut brown from a box color safely?

So, awhile a go, I had my hair blonde, then i added brown lowlights, then I recently went "spicy salsa" red. (Note: all of this coloring was done from boxes.) In the end "spicy salsa" ended up taking more of a strawberry/deep cherry red on the top half of my head. However, the lower half of my hair didn't take so well to the new red color. It is an obvious lighter difference and it looks too punkish, not stylish. I am really sad about the results, I hope that someone can help me because I do not want to spend a lot of money at the salon, I would rather do this by a box. Remember, my lower portion of my hair is a light red/pink...while the top portion is really very berry red...please help!!!

Go to a salon so it will look right.
Reply:well whatever you do don't use something with the words ASH in it cause it will turn your hair green, you have to start with a little at a time, try a color thats a little lighter than what you have now then gradually go down from there.
Reply:I probably shouldn't be answering this, since I messed up my own hair when I dyed it black not realizing that its impossible to get black out and now the top half of my hair is back to my normal brown with red highlights and the bottom half is still black, : (....BUT.....Maybe try re-dying the bottom half with the red? Perhaps there just wasnt enough dye on the lower portion?

Your deep cherry red sounds really awesome ; ) I just think that if I got that kind of color into my hair, I wouldnt want to give up so easily and go to brown, Lol : )
