My hair is naturally a dark brown/black color i want to dye it a medium chestnut brown will that color show?

im not sure if the color will show since my hair is a dark color. this is the first time im going to dye my hair.

If you use a semi or demi permanent dye, it won't show that much. Your color will be warmer and a little brighter. If you use a permanent dye it will work better. To lighten your hair, you need to change the base color, and then add the chestnut brown on top of it. Both Revlon and L'Oreal sell kits at the drugstore that do this. They take several hours to do, but they work very well and are pretty foolproof.
