How do you pronounce Geanmeno in Celtic/Gaelic? (it means chestnut)?

Geanmeno - This looks like a slightly anglicized form of one of the Gaelic words for "chestnut."

I think that "Gann-men-o " would be the best way to pronounce it with "gan-" sounded like the /a/ in American English can or fan.

Some additional information:

The Irish Gaelic spelling is geanmchnó and the word would be pronounced as gann-um-kh'no in standard Irish Gaelic and gonn-um-h'ro in some northern Irish dialects like Tir Chonaill Gaelic spoken near Donegal and Derry (i.e. Londonderry). .

Geanmchnò - This is the Scottish Gaelic spelling and it would be pronounced as gonn-um-khro in their language.

Since the Gaelic pronunciation is a little difficult for English speakers, it's easy to see why Geanmeno is the English rendition of the word or name. I assume you want to use it as a name for a dog or horse, maybe?

geanas (gann-us) also means "modesty" or "chastity" in Gaelic and cnó (k'no or kro) means "nut." Hence geanmchnó "chestnut."

Hope that helps.

"Gann-uh-men-o" is still another possibility. It has a better flow to it than "Gann-men-o." Report It
