It is a spikey shell/ nut that fell from a tree. It is about 1-2 inches

Reply:Humm, it's hard to tell without seeing a picture of the item. I do know that sweet gum trees produce a spikey seed pod about that size. If it cracks open to reveal large seeds though it is not from the sweet gum tree.
