How do I roast Chestnuts?

I have a bag of fresh chestnuts purchased from an Asian store. I want to roast them, but don't know how? What is the procedrure for roasting them? How long do you roast them for?

actually, stupid jokes aside, when I was a kid there was a outdoor Christmas pageant and tree lighting after the christmas parade where they served roasted chestnuts and hot chocolate.

I noticed that they had cuts on them before they put them on the grill, probably to keep them from exploding.

they cooked them on a large bbq grill over coals,for about 10 -12 min. stirring them occasionaly, then they put them in a paper sack for you to eat.

Reply:I would say to place them into a bowl of fresh, melted butter. just for like 5 minutes of so.. Then add the spices, seasoning, etc. that you like. Then from there, you can roast them over the fire, for about 15-20 minutes, or in the oven on 340 for 5-10 minutes. :] And enjoy!
