i did research, found that people who are allergic to avocado, latex, and chestnuts are at risk of becoming allergic to latex. is it because the species of tree is closely related?
Why are people who are allergic to latex also allergic to avocado, chestnuts, and bananas?
That is exactly the case. The specific group of enzymes involved are called 'chitinases' and are present in all those foods and plantains as well. What makes it worse is that ripening the fruit with ethanol (as is often done commercially) tends to produce more chitinases in these foods.
It does bear mention, though, that typically only people with the most severe latex allergies need to worry about these kind of interactions. Less severe latex problems are usually caused by reactions to some of the chemicals involved in latex processing instead of the original latex (derived from the hevea brasiliensis tree) itself.
Reply:no it's b/c the proteins that are present in the latex are also present in those fruits...
i'm allergic to latex and i also react to avacados, kiwi, and strawberries...
Reply:Never heard of this before.
And also, if you did the reasearch, why are you asking this question???
Reply:how are they related, except for the concept that you've rounded off in your own mind, i don't see it, kid. tree's do not have the components needed to make latex fibers of any sort, it's not found in a plant or anything botanical, latex is a synthetic material. if this is a riddle or a joke, the joke is on me, but there is a joke and riddle section, kid...
