From Broad %26amp; Spring garden to 33rd %26amp; Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia is how many miles? Walking South on Broad to Chestnut West on Chestnut to 33rd
How many city blocks in Philadelphia equal one mile?
Traditonally we think of a city block as being equal to .1 miles or 10 blocks to the mile. That is a rule of thumb and only an estimate. In your example it is .8 miles from 501 N. Broad Street to 101 S. Broad Street a distance of 6 blocks. Those blocks are
then a little longer or .13 miles long or 7.6 to the mile. On your trip West and across the Schuylkill River you will encounter only 15 blocks and the river. These blocks are closer to our estimate of .9 miles per block. You might think that there should be 19 blocks between Broad and 33rd Street but the river curves and eliminates some streets.
From Broad and Spring Garden Streets to Broad and Chestnut is .8 miles. From Broad and Chestnut to 33rd and Chestnut is 1.39 miles. All told your distance is 2.19 miles; if you walk. Because of One Way Streets, Yahoo Maps says it will take you 2.3 miles.
I suggest the Broad Street Subway and transfer to the Market Street line. I traveled this route while an undergrad at the University of Pennsylvania 40 years ago. The distances have not changed nor has the condition of the Broad Street Subway.
