Tree nuts can trigger an allergic reaction ( cashews, walnuts, pecans, almonds, chestnuts, brazill nuts, filberts, hazelnuts, etc), other things than can produce an allergic reaction in babies include peanuts and nut butters, egg whites, shellfish, and citrus fruits. Most doctors recommend waiting until after the first birthday (or longer if there's a family history of allergies) to try these foods.
Can babies eat mashed chestnuts?
I'm not exactly sure if this is a great idea. Although chestnuts are healthy. . .they are hard to digest and may cause the baby pain or indigestion. I'd suggest just sticking to some good ol' Gerbers!
Reply:i wouldn't give it to them, mainly because babies can have so many allergies and if they are allergic to nuts you wouldn't know until they had a reaction and it could kill them
Reply:I think as a nut it's one of those high-allergy foods, so follow the rules your pediatrician gave you about introducing one food at a time to make sure it doesn't give the baby any problems.
Reply:Never heard of mashed chestnuts - but sure - once a baby has moved on past feeding from the teat - they can pretty much eat mashed anything (though I don't recommend car parts...).
I suppose pureed is more appropriate for other things though (like meat).

Reply:babies can eat mashed anything!!!
Reply:have you heard that some children are allergic to nuts? is it worth risking? NO
Reply:I wouldn't do it until they are more than a year old, for the same reason that you don't give peanut butter until then.
Nut allergies can crop up in any child, no matter if it runs in your family or not. The longer you wait to introduce potential allergens, the better chance your child has of help arriving on time in case of an emergency.
Nut allergies cause the throat to swell, and in a baby's tiny throat, there isn't much room for error.
Mashed or not, I would wait until after the first birthday. There's no need to risk it.
Reply:Babies under 3 -4 months shouldn't even have solid food (even baby food like Gerber etc) and nuts of any type cause many allergies in children so it could be dangerous. Food allergies can kill a child before you even realize there's a problem since it can close off their throat and they cannot breathe. Don't do it!
Reply:DEAR NO THEY CAN NOT BECAUSE HE ARE SHE MIGHT HAVE FOOD ALLERGY'S TO ANY NUT LIKE PEANUTS OK TAKE CARE
Reply:if u make them liquidy. . .not safe though. They have to be soaked and crushed and ground and soaked again or the baby could choke.
Reply:This is a question that I cringe at.......people give advice about things they really don't know about.
Most doctors would say no nuts until a baby is more than a year old. No honey until the baby is older also. Nuts are one of those things a baby could be dangerously allergic to.Don't take a chance on harming your baby. But don't take my word for it......tak to your doctor!!
Best to ask your doctor these questions.....don't depend on people here!
