It is more of a solid consistency than a puree. It doesn't taste bad, but it was expensive and doesn't taste as delicious as expected either. What should I use it for? Is it used in sweet recipes? If I don't use it all, can some be frozen for later?
Thanks :)
I just opened a can of French Chestnut Puree. What should I do with this?
YUM! I had no idea chestnuts existed as a delicious food until I was in Italy and tasted some homemade chestnut jam (it's called marmellata di castagne) ... and lucky to get it before the others devoured it. What a scrumptious treat!
You can use this in a lot of ways, if you like it. It's not a taste familiar to lots of Aussies so some won't enjoy it, but if you have a little sweet tooth ... mmmmmm.
Anyway, try it on ice cream, as a toast topper, and on pancakes or waffles, anything like that it is very suitable and yummy.
You can also fill pastry 'cups' with it, and then ice over the top (like a neenish tart), and there is a type of pie like a caramel pie that you can make using chestnut instead.
AND, for a real treat, check out the link below to recipes from Nigella Lawson which include this treat (the first three).
Enjoy :-)
PS: I'm thinking this is the sweetened type. The unsweetened would be perfect for the broth like your answerer delhi says ... a lovely nutty flavour and textrure.
1/4 c Chicken broth
1 cn Unsweetened chestnut puree
-(6oz)
Salt and freshly ground
-black pepper
1/4 c Heavy cream or evaporated
-low fat milk, optional
Chestnut and Garlic Puree (Mf) PreparationSlowly simmer the garlic in the broth until tender. Puree garlic and broth with chestnut puree in food processor. Reheat puree in a double boiler, season to taste with salt and pepper and whisk in heavy cream if you wish.
Reply:LOL .. don't you know if it isn't in Wikipedia IT JUST DOESN'T EXIST ;) ( that was cute)
If it was canned, I can't see why you couldn't freeze it .. .perhaps you could use it in some rich chocolate cake?
