How does one prepare chestnuts? And how do you cook them or roast them?

1. Heat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.

2. Cut a cross into the top of each nut into the top of the flesh. Put in a roasting tin and bake until the skins open and the insides are tender about 30 minutes.

3. Serve in paper bags so you can eat them without dropping them. Peel away the skin and the pithy white bit inside to get to the sweet kernel.

You can definately boil them and in addition afte boiling them thow them in the fireplace on low fire(if you have one__)

peal of the skin and njoy...

pretty straight forward.

you 'll know their done by trying to squize them and see if they are soft
Reply:Chestnuts are good right off the tree but to roast, just put 'em on the hearth in front of your fireplace for a while, turning occasionally.

No fireplace? Stick them in a 350°F oven for 10 or 15 minutes.

DON'T USE THE MICROWAVE!!

Don't ask how I know.
Reply:Tell you what NOT to do. They DO NOT go in a microwave. My husband's grandfather did that and I think his wife nearly killed him for it.
