Have you ever had chestnut (marron glace) ice cream? It's delicious! Also they make MG jams, jellies, candies....
Marron Glace:
A French term for chestnuts that are preserved in a sweetened syrup resulting in a "candied" nut. Marron glacé is considered a delicacy that may be served as a dessert accompaniment, a snack, or as a topping that is chopped into pieces and spread over baked goods, fruits, ice cream, and puddings.
Marron glacé is also an ingredient used to make other desserts, most notably Mont Blanc, which consists of pureéd chestnuts formed into a mound and topped with whipped cream.
What do people use chestnuts for and do people buy them?
I use it as an ingredient in chicken staffing, makes chicken sweeter, roast chestnuts is also another yum yum~
Reply:Lot's of things! Chestnuts are good for roasting, of course, but can also be used as stuffing for various holiday birds.
They make one of the most DELICIOUS desserts, by steaming them until they're all soft, mashing them with sugar and vanilla (yum) and then eating them as is, like mashed potatoes, or mixing with a sour cream.
You can also make preserves out of them, which I find goes very well on meats, mostly fowl if you make it like mint jelly. You can also mix these preserves with a chocolate cream and have your own Nutella-esque bread spread.
You can pick up a bag of chestnuts at specialty grocery stores, or many stores around Christmas time.
Reply:You can fill ducks and geeze with chestnuts when roasting them, but I don't have experiances because I do fill mine with apples and sultanas.

Reply:They are actually good nutritious food and according to some natural medicine practitioners good for help prevent some ailments. The ones that come to mind off hand are varicose veins and hemorrhoids.
If roasted properly they are tasty also.
Reply:I love roasted chestnuts around the holidays - there's nothing like them. For dinner we sometimes make chestnut pasta (made with chestnut flour) that's served with a chestnut, rosemary and butter sauce - one of my favorite pastas!
Reply:Water chestnuts in a can are great for adding texture to dishes. I love the crunch. They can be incorporated into meat fillings for homemade eggrolls, stir fry, stuffing, green bean casserole-it doesn't have a strong flavor so it's good with lots of things. Whole fresh chestnuts are great roasted, or boiled. They are slightly sweet. Great in stuffings, sauces, and eaten plain.
Reply:Chestnuts roasting on an open fire-----they exist so we can have that song :)
But in bigger cities there are actual cart around with vendors selling roasted chestnuts.
Reply:Some put them in desserts but a lot of others put them into stir frys but those are water chestnuts and then they put some usually chinese or indian spices in and then add some beef and brocolli and other vegetables and yes people buy them.
