How to cook chestnuts?

Reply:Cut a crosswise slit in the bottom of them and either boil them or roast in a 350 oven for 20 minutes to get the skin off.
After peeling the skins, roast in the oven at 350 for 15-20 minutes more or slice and use in your favorite recipe.
Reply:Roasting is best in a medium oven, but a tip is to pierce them first and boil for 5 mins then roast them. They will peel really easy.

Put them into a closed roasting tin and cook them on 220 for about 20 minutes.
Reply:You can also boil them - if you want to make chestnut stuffing for example - pierce the shells first.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire etc Errr oven/frypan. This is a lovely surprise Christmas treat for family %26amp; friends. There are many ways to roast chestnuts but this is my favorite
1 lb fresh chestnuts, washed
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup apple cider or berentzen apfelkorn apple liqueur
salt
fresh coarse ground black pepper
4 servings
1. Preheat oven to 400F.
2. Cut an X in the top of each chestnut but be very careful not to cut into the flesh.
3. Place the chestnuts in a single layer on a cookie sheet and roast for 20 minutes.
4. Remove from the oven and cool the nuts until you can handle them and then peel them.
5. Just before serving heat the oil in a fry pan large enough to hold the nuts in a single layer.
6. Stir fry until light golden brown, remove from pan and with a paper towel remove any excess oil.
7. Add the apple cider/ liquer, use high heat and reduce to apprx half.
8. Return Chestnuts to pan, stir to glaze, add salt%26amp; pepper.
9. Serve hot.
