How do you cook a chestnut?

Hey Now...

My Grand Father used to love chestnuts...

Here is his "Recipe'

Cut an "X" into the flat side of the nut or they will explode!

On a baking tray spread them out and sprinkle them with

water so they don't dry out...

In a oven preheated to 375 degrees cook them for

25-30 minutes sprinkling them occasionally so they

don't dry out...

He then peeled them still hot and put them in a jar filled with Chanti wine...

He let them soak a day or two..

OMG, were they good!

Here is another one...

INGREDIENTS

1 pound chestnuts

1/4 cup butter

salt to taste

1 pinch ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

Cut a 1/2 inch crisscross on the flat side of each nut.

Be sure to cut through the shell to prevent the nut from exploding.

Place the nuts in a shallow baking pan and bake for

25 to 30 minutes.

Allow to cool and peel off the shell.

Note:

The hotter they are the easier they are to peel!

Place nuts in a skillet with butter and saute over high

heat until the butter is melted and the chestnuts are

well coated.

Place skillet in oven and roast until they are golden on top. Sprinkle with salt and cinnamon.

Reply:roast it. have a look on the sainsbury's website - that jamie oliver is pushing them for xmas and there's a recipie on there.
Reply:BThe best way ever of course (my way!...LOL) First u need to make sure that u have good chesnuts (no worm holes) then u preheat ur oven to 300, take a knife and cut them half way (dont completely split them, this is so that when they bake the outer shell is easy to remove) you place thme on a baking tray and wait until they burst through the shell and get a nice golden colour.......ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Uh.. you roast them over an open fire.
Reply:roast them or boil them with skin's on
Reply:Put them on a tray in the oven and wait for them to open with a popping noise, then they are cooked and ready to eat,be carefull they will be hot

I love chestnuts! OK, so first you need to take a knife and cut an x on the flat side. Then, soak them in water. I usually do it in the morning and put them in the fridge.

That night I put them in an oven at 200 degrees, and test them in about an hour or so.

The soaked skin breaks away from the nut and thus peels easily. The low temp allows them to stay moist and soft.

Some people use a higher heat but I found you must then eat them all the same night. The low heat lets you pick on them for days.

Want to reheat them? nuke them .

Good Luck
Reply:Peel and boil them or roast them in their skins.
Reply:Split each chestnut with a knife but dont cut completely in half then grill. mmmmmmmmmmmm
Reply:Here's a link to a lot of information about chestnuts, cooking them and using them in recipes. Good luck!
